What is the difference between rutile sand and rutile flour?

They are the same mineral, rutile (TiO₂), and share the same CAS number: what changes is the particle size. The sand is the granular, free-flowing material, suitable when the customer’s process includes its own grinding stage. The flour is already ground and can be added directly to a composition. The choice depends on where the raw material enters the process.

Titanium dioxide acts as an opacifier and promotes crystal nucleation during cooling, which makes it possible to obtain matt, satin and crystalline glazes. It also influences the shade of the glaze, so its dosage forms part of the colour formulation.

No. Both are titanium dioxide (TiO₂), but they are different crystalline forms with different CAS numbers. Rutile is the form that is stable at high temperature and gives warmer tones. Anatase is chosen when maximum whiteness is required. They are not interchangeable in a formulation without reviewing the colour result.
